The Wonder Years - This Party Sucks

I’m not too big on The Wonder Years but this song was put ona mix that was given to me and it’s pretty funny and accurate to shows these days that I had went to and some I try to avoid.

and it’s also funny because the song is about being 23 and shit and how the dude is avoiding the bar scene and shit. I didn’t start drinking til I was 22[I’m 23 now] and I hated going to bars and well — I never fitted in with the girls and dudes at the bars. I stayed in a lot, HA!

Now I go sometimes to visit old friends and we just socialize with each other.

ANYWAY, the point of this video blog was to share that these lyrics here, we’re the perfect lyrics to understand how I felt last night at a ‘local’ show:

“I can’t believe I ended up here again watching this terrible band play songs I hate in the basement. I can’t believe that I got stuck here again while the kid with the dreads tells me he’s smarter on acid.”

Tuesday May 29th. Metro Smart Bar.

The Early November/The Wonder Years/The Swellers/Young Statues.

Angela and I had left around 4:30 to Lake Shore Drive, got caught in traffic. Laughed too hard, sang too loud.

Got to the Metro at like 6:50 - missed young statues. The Swellers did awesome. The crowd did not give them the justice they deserve. In all honesty, I think The Wonder Years should have went first and then The Swellers.

The Wonder Years did awesome as well. The crowd really loved them and it sort of made me feel weird. Good vibe though.

The Early November did absolutely amazing and the energy was there and I had felt I was a teenager again when I had first seen them play at the Metro years ago. The set list was amazing. They only played one new song which was the opener. Ace on stage, screaming the lyrics with his acoustic and the rest of them [minus Jeff :/] walked out and opened with “Decoration”. Brilliant. Just brilliant.

5 years has been too long. Too fucking long.

Show ended too early. Didn’t get a set list because the dude on stage was a douche. 9:50 we left. Arrived at purple steer at 10:30. Bumped into Sal, Heck, Topia and Crispin. Weird end to our weird day.

Angela and I have the best times together.

The Early November.

Is tonight at the Metro with The Swellers, The Wonder Years and Young Statues.

I’ve been waiting for this night from two months ago. Stoked beyond words. After this show, that means the pre order sales will be shipping out in July :D. I’ll finally get the cd and the dvd comp and this gnarly tee. I’m excited.

I wish the cd came out sooner :/ I won’t be able to sing along tonight.

Angela is coming with me and I assume Mynor is too. With this heat, I’m not sure if letting the hair down would be a good idea.

Summer is now officially starting for Angela and I. First show of the summer. This Thursday is a free Flatfoot 56 show were going to with Steve and Mary. I don’t know where it is exactly but you can’t beat a FREE FLATFOOT 56 SHOW!

Holy shit. No words can express how deeply appreciative I am for my mother buying this for me when I’m currently broke. No words can express the feeling of happiness I am to finally see my favorite band come back to me at my favorite venue where I had seen them the first time when I was like 13.

I am so over joyed.
